Does your European caravan appear to sit very low down, close to the road with very little road clearance?
The problem
Over time the rubber suspension insets in the axle have become squashed and no longer have any movement. Which will have a detrimental affect on the whole caravan interior and outer structure as it is submitted to the impact forces of the road.
What a video that explains this issue
The effects of this problem
When the wheels hit potholes and indentations in the road, the suspension no longer takes up the shock, and those forces are transmitted to the structure and fabric of the caravan interior.
If you continue towing your caravan in this condition, you will almost certainly cause more damage, and you will be surprised at what happens. The bulkheads and cupboards will become unattached from the walls, and the floor-to-ceiling bulkheads will start pushing through the roof, causing water ingress. We have even seen the chassis rails crack, breaking everything inside.
The solution
At Vantage RV, we can rebuild the axle on the vehicle; no need to remove the axle and send it away to be rebuilt; removing the axle from the caravan can potentially put the caravan at risk of deformation of the side walls if the chassis has not been supported properly.
We also rebuild axles that have already been removed; if you prefer to ship the axle to us
We remove the existing (compressed) rubbers and replace them with fresh new rubber, which gives you a better and smoother ride and extends the life of your vehicle.
ALKO uses two main axle types with varying weight-carrying capacities and some variation in the design. We need to clarify which type of axle you have; describe the axle in the notes if you intend to book it in; we will come back to you with questions if we do not have enough information
